Tips to Stop Apps Keep Crashing on Android

Here’s a list of the best troubleshooting tips to stop apps from crashing on Android. All the tips are verified. Let’s check them out.

  1. Reboot Your Android Device
  2. Check Your Internet Connection
  3. Free Up Storage Space
  4. Force Stop the Application
  5. Clear App Cache & Data
  6. Update or Re-Install the Application
  7. Check for App Permissions
  8. Clear Android Cache Partition
  9. Update Android OS
  10. Factory Reset Android

1. Reboot Your Android Device

If apps keep crashing on Android, reboot the device instantly. Most of the time, such issues occur due to temporary bugs with the app or issues with the app launch.

These types of problems can easily be dealt with by a simple restart. So, hold the Power button of your Android device and hit the Restart option on the following screen.

After a successful reboot, try using the app. If it is still crashing, you need to check for other avenues.

2. Check Your Internet Connection

Some applications aren’t meant to run without a strong internet connection. Take social media or messaging apps, for example.

With a weak internet connection, these applications won’t be able to run properly and may even crash. So, check and verify the status of your internet connection.

If you think running the app on mobile data is the problem, you can try again after connecting your Android device to a more stable and powerful Wi-Fi connection.

If you have a good internet connection and the app is still crashing, the rest of the solutions would be more helpful.

3. Free Up Storage Space

An application requires enough storage space in order to perform properly.

If the application is failing to launch properly or crashing constantly, take a closer look at the internal storage of your Android device. You may need to free up some space.

Follow these steps to check your phone storage.

  1. Simply launch the Settings app and tap on Battery and Device Care.

  1. After that, tap on Storage, and you will come across a detailed overview of your device’s internal storage.

From here, you will be able to check how much storage is occupied, which files are consuming most of the storage space, etc. So, just delete the unnecessary files to make some room for the apps to run.

4. Force Stop the Application

We don’t usually need to force stop the applications on Android, but sometimes, it becomes necessary to do so.

It is easy to forget about an app running in the background of your smartphone. It is more common than you might think.

In such conditions, when you try to launch the app again, it may freeze or crash. It is because the app wasn’t closed properly. So, force-stopping the app becomes a necessity.

Here’s how to force-stop an app on your Android phone:

  1. Go to the Android Settings and tap on Apps.
Select Apps under Settings

  1. Locate the app that is crashing and tap on it.
  2. Under App Info, hit the Force Stop button below.

Lastly, tap on the OK button to confirm your action. If the app was crashing due to the launch issue, it shouldn’t be crashing anymore.

5. Clear App Cache & Data

When you use an app, it continuously saves data in the form of cache. Over time, these files pile up, and sometimes they get corrupt.

Due to these corrupt cache files, the app may start malfunctioning, which could lead to the app crashing constantly on Android.

In this situation, you need to manually remove these files.

  1. Navigate to the Settings of your Android mobile and tap on Apps.
  2. Select the app that is crashing and tap on it.
  3. Under App Info, tap on the Storage option.

  1. In the new panel, locate Clear Data and Clear Cache option at the bottom. Tap on them to clear the app files.

Don’t worry. After these files are removed, launch the app again, and it will start creating new cache files.

Due to the removal of app data, you will lose all the customization, but the application shouldn’t be crashing anymore.

6. Update or Re-Install the Application

This solution is a bit conditional. You need to check if any updates are available for the app that is crashing on your Android phone.

If you are using an outdated version of the application, it’s obvious that the app won’t work properly.

So, launch the Google Play Store app. Locate the application and tap on the Update button to install it.

Now, you may already be using the latest version of the application. So, there aren’t any updates available.

In this situation, we recommend a clean re-installation.

  1. Launch the Google Play Store app
  2. Search for the desired application and tap on it.
  3. In the App Info, you will find the Uninstall button. Tap on it.

After tapping on the Uninstall button, the application will be removed from your Android smartphone. Now, reboot the device and install the app again from the Play Store.

7. Check for App Permissions

Permissions are an integral part of an app’s operation. Without proper permission, the app won’t be able to perform at the optimum level.

If the application has started crashing recently, then it could have been due to the app update you have installed. Occasionally, app permission gets changed after new updates. It is a rare phenomenon.

So, it is best if you take a look.

  1. Launch the Settings app on Android and then tap on Apps
  2. Locate the app that is crashing and tap on it.
  3. Under the App Info page, select Permissions.

From here, you will be able to change the permission for that particular application. Just provide the necessary permission, and the app should work just fine.

8. Update Android OS

Android frequently releases new updates that come with new features and, most importantly, bug fixes. So, the Android OS should always be up to date.

If the app crashing issue is still consistent and none of the previous methods were fruitful, be sure to check for the new Android update.

If you have already updated Android a day or two ago, then you should go for the next tip directly.

Otherwise, check and install the new update. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Launch the Settings app on Android and tap on Software Update

After tapping on that button, Android will start searching for new updates. If you are already using the latest update, you will be notified.

Otherwise, Android will download the latest update and provide you with the Install option.

9. Clear Android Cache Partition

This is a bit complicated tip, but it has been proven effective for a few users who were facing apps that keep crashing on Android.

Cache partition is the place on your smartphone where app data and other system files are stored.

When you are facing such an issue, wiping the cache partition could be helpful. The procedure for this solution is a bit difficult as you need to access Android Recovery Mode.

So, we recommend using this tip if you have already gone through the other solutions from this list.

  1. First, you need to enter the Android Recovery Mode. For Samsung devices, you need to connect the charging cable to the phone but connect the other USB-A end to a computer or a laptop.
  2. Now, turn off the mobile.
  3. After the device is turned off, hold the Power button and the Volume Up button. Hold the buttons for a few seconds, and you will enter the Android Recovery Mode.

  1. In the Recovery Mode, use the volume buttons to navigate. Select, Wipe Cache Partition
  2. Hit the Power button to confirm your choice. Then, select Reboot System Now

After the reboot, try to launch the application. It may have stopped crashing.

10. Factory Reset Android

If none of the previous methods worked and the app is still crashing, you need to factory reset your Android phone.

This is another effective way to fix many Android issues. The factory reset will delete all the files, custom settings, and app data from your smartphone.

So, you should use it as a last resort and also make sure to back up your Android phone.

  1. Launch the Settings app on Android and navigate to General Management

After the Factory Data Reset, you have to set up the Android device. It can be a bit troubling to start from the beginning. At least the app won’t be crashing anymore.
