Is your Disney Plus not working on Firestick? As frustrating as it is when you can’t watch your favorite show, consider the tips below to help you figure out what’s wrong and fix the Disney Plus app on a Fire Stick.

Firestick has become a must-have entertainment accessory for a lot of people. In today’s streaming-dominant entertainment industry, its ability to give TVs access to all the latest streaming services is priceless.

However, it can be a major pain when Disney Plus stopped working on Firestick. Any app can start acting up on your Firestick for many reasons, but today, we want to focus on the Disney Plus app.

This article will step you through possible fixes for Disney Plus not working on Firestick.

Let’s get to the solutions so you can watch your favorite movies again.

Simple Solutions to Fix Disney Plus Not Working on Firestick

First, we’re going to start out with the simplest solutions. Usually, Disney Plus won’t work because something failed to initiate in your Firestick or it didn’t boot properly.

This is no big deal, and there’s no reason to take any drastic or time-consuming measures right off the bat.

1. Force Reset Your Firestick

Just like any other electronic, the first thing you should do when something goes wrong is reset it.

Unlike most electronics, you won’t have to leave your couch or fiddle with plugs and power buttons for this. The Firestick has a built-in reset function on the remote.

There are actually two ways to reset your Firestick, but since the most common issue can freeze the Firestick, this will be the one you’ll have to use a lot of the time.

To activate a reset, simply hold the Play button and Center button on your remote simultaneously, and keep them pressed for about fifteen seconds. Your Firestick will turn off suddenly, wait a few seconds, and reboot automatically.

For 90% of problems with Disney Plus, this will be more than enough to solve, and you should be watching your favorite shows right away.

At the most, you might have to wait a moment for your internet to reconnect after the reset. That’s it. There are no drawbacks, and you don’t have to do anything complicated.

This method works because your Firestick builds up a cache of stored images, data, and various other things as you use it.

If that doesn’t get cleared out every once in a while, it will cause massive slowdowns across the entire Firestick.

Not only will Disney Plus run so slowly that it’s not worth trying, but everything else will, too. By using the forced reset option, you clear your cache.

2. Soft Reset Your Firestick

If your system still operates smoothly and you can quickly navigate the menus, you can skip the manual forced reset above and do a “soft” forced reset. This is essentially the same thing, but you choose an option from a menu.

Hold your center button for three seconds, and you’ll get a menu to browse. Choose “Reset Firestick,” and the Firestick will start its reboot process.

There isn’t much difference between this and the button combination press version above, but this is less of a sudden reboot.

It’s like the difference between hitting the power button on a PC or turning it off through the power management menu. Except, it’s even less of a big deal than that.

It is a little faster, though. You need to hold the button combination for fifteen seconds before that version starts processing.

If you can quickly navigate the Firestick’s menus, you can do this in less than 10 seconds with ease.

3. Clear Disney Plus Cache

Disney Plus has its own cache, and it can start slowing down to a ridiculous degree if that isn’t cleared, too.

First, we recommend the forced reset option above because it’s more common. However, if that doesn’t work, you’ll have to clear your Disney Plus cache.

To do this, you’re going to want to force Disney Plus to stop operating.

  • Simply go to Settings
  • Navigate to Applications
  • Then, find “Manage Installed Applications.”

Once there, look through the list for Disney Plus, highlight it, and click “Force Stop.” This is much like the “End Task” option in Windows if you’re a PC user.

Now, navigate the same menus, find Disney Plus again, and choose “Clear Cache.” You can also go ahead and click “Clear Data,” as well.

This won’t have any meaningful impact on performance. As the Firestick does not have the greatest processor, it does not need a cache, and simply using the extra memory would be better. Don’t worry about clearing this stuff out at all.

Now, your Disney Plus app should work well as new.

4. Unplug Firestick and TV

All right, it is now time to resort to the good old “unplug it and plug it back in” method that is so often turned to.

This will go one of two ways. If you have an actual Firestick, we recommend unplugging it from the TV, waiting 60 seconds for everything to fully shut down and residual electricity to dissipate, and then plugging it back in.

In case that doesn’t work, try it again, but this time unplug the television and hold the power button.

If you have installed the Fire TV on the television itself, you can unplug the TV for 60 seconds and hold the power button.

By waiting 60 seconds, you give everything time to fully shut down. Therefore when you turn it back on, your Firestick or Fire TV will have to boot everything from scratch.

Holding the power button helps ensure that all residual electricity is dissipated before you plug it back in.

This isn’t a surefire method, but in terms of simple fixes, this is the last resort, and it should fix 90% of problems with your Firestick not running properly.

If Disney Plus is still not working, you probably have a bigger problem to worry about, and you’ll need a more complicated solution.

Advanced Solutions to Fix Disney Plus Not Working on Firestick

If you’re still having problems with Disney Plus after trying everything listed above, you’re not out of luck entirely.

Here are a couple of things that are a little more complicated, but you can still handle them on your own.

1. Uninstall Disney Plus and Reinstall It

Sometimes, the Disney Plus app just gets corrupted and won’t work right. If that happens, you’ll want to delete it and reinstall it.

We’ve seen that this fix has worked well when popular apps like Prime Video, YouTube, and Hulu don’t work on other streaming devices like Roku.

Here’s how to uninstall Dinesy on your Firestick

  1. Navigate to the “Manage Installed Apps” menu as you did early to clear the Disney Plus cache.
  2. From there, you can uninstall it from your Firestick entirely.

Once you uninstalled it, install it the same way you did to get it on there in the first place.

This will give you a clean install that should work perfectly. Rarely, this doesn’t fix the issue unless it is outside your control.

2. Check Wi-Fi Connection

If this is the case, it will affect every online Firestick app, not just the Disney Plus app.

Since the Firestick streams content over Wi-Fi, you need to ensure it gets the highest signal strength possible. This will help you maximize your internet speed.

The Firestick might have problems transferring data fast enough to provide a smooth streaming experience if the connection is low.

If your connection is slow, try rearranging your setup to bring the router closer to the Firestick. If there are a lot of walls between the two units, signal problems can become an issue.

3. Reset Router and Modem

If your Firestick doesn’t have a connection at all, you’ll want to try restarting your router and modem.

Simply unplug both units, leave them unplugged for a full minute, and then replug them.

It will take up to three minutes for each device to reconnect your internet, and then your Firestick will connect to it again within a few seconds.

If all the appropriate connection lights don’t come on for your router or modem, you have an issue with either the devices or your ISP.

4. Check Your Internet Speed

As we said earlier, you need to have a fast enough connection to support video streaming.

internet speed test

If you’re on a very cheap or low-quality internet plan, your internet might not be fast enough to support streaming.

You can resolve that by looking for a higher-speed internet package. This will typically cost more, but at least you’ll get more use out of it and have a better experience.

Speed issues can be a problem if you’re using too much bandwidth, as well. If your Disney Plus works just fine most of the time, and suddenly it’s extremely slow, see how many devices you have hooked up to the internet at once.

Are the kids all streaming YouTube, downloading video games, or playing with their friends? Those things will consume your bandwidth, and your streaming quality will drop dramatically.

This is usually identifiable because your videos will start buffering frequently, and of course, you’ll notice everyone else on their devices.

You can resolve this issue by having some of the other devices turned off while you’re streaming.

Problems You Can’t Resolve

Of course, there are some problems you might experience that you really can’t do anything about. Here’s a brief look at those situations.

1. Check if Disney Plus Servers are Down

Occasionally, Disney Plus will have to shut down and perform app maintenance. When that happens, the app won’t work, and all you can do is wait for maintenance to finish.

If your other apps work just fine, and you’ve tried clearing the Disney Plus cache, do a quick online search to see if Disney Plus is down.

Either Disney Plus will have posted an announcement on their website, or a good cyber Samaritan will have posted something to help everyone out.

Also, keep an eye on social media like Twitter. They might let their followers know when Disney Plus will return.

2. ISP Problems

If Disney Plus is up, none of your apps or Wi-Fi-enabled devices are working properly, and a modem/router reset doesn’t work, it’s time to call your ISP.

Your internet service provider might be dealing with a downed line in your area, have an internal problem that required services to be shut down, or be performing standard line maintenance.

These are just things that happen, and you can’t do anything but wait. Eventually, your ISP will get the problem resolved, and you’ll have your internet connection back.

If you call, they’ll give you an estimated time that the service will return and give you more details about what’s going on.

Of course, you might have lost your internet connection. This can be due to a couple of things.

Typically, it’s because you didn’t pay your internet bill on time. If you did that, you might have strikes against your account for violating the terms of service.

In either situation, you will have had ample notice ahead of time via letters mailed to your house. You’ll need to call the ISP and resolve those issues, or a lot more than just Disney Plus will be inoperable.

3. Firestick Failure

Finally, your Firestick might have failed. Depending on the severity of the failure, it might be immediately noticeable, or it might be something you have to play around with to figure out the Firestick is the issue.

In this case, your only real choice is to buy a new Firestick, reinstall all your favorite apps, log into everything, and start over.

Luckily, this is not very common, and Firesticks are reliable devices. Almost every other problem detailed in this article is likely to be the culprit before the failure of your Firestick.

Final Thoughts on Disney Plus Not Working on Firestick

We highly recommend starting off with simple solutions first. They will resolve at least 90% of potential Disney Plus problems on your Firestick, and they don’t take much time at all to do.

You might also want to start with anything obvious, such as an unpaid internet bill, your Firestick being dropped in the water recently, or something like that.

Regardless of the case, this list should resolve any problems you’re having with your Firestick device, and a lot of them are viable for apps other than Disney Plus, as well.
