So you got your PS5 out of the box and can’t wait to set it up and start gaming. Perhaps you just moved and are finally settling in, eager to jump back into your favorite video game pass time.

But as you hook up your system, you are annoyed to discover that your PS5 is not connecting to the TV. You may know a few things to try, but perhaps they haven’t worked for you.

If you are in this frustrating position, we assure you that the problem is likely simpler to fix than you think. So, if you want to know how to fix PS5 not connecting to a TV, follow our simple guide for a quick resolution.

1. Check if Your HDMI Cable Is Faulty

One of the most common issues with any device connecting to TVs lies in the wiring. The PS5 connects to the TV via HDMI cables, so an adequate connection is important for a successful connection.

A wire not fully plugged in, either on the TV or the PS5, will cause a connection to not register. Ensure that both ends of the wire are securely connected to their respective ports.

Also, make sure that the integrity of the wire’s casing is intact and not frayed. If you see visible defects with the wire or its casing, plug in a new HDMI wire to help establish a connection.

Even if the frayed one does work, it should still be replaced, as it is only a matter of time before problems arise.

2. Change HDMI Ports

If the HDMI wire is fine, the HDMI connection could still be your issue, except rather than that wire, the problem could be with the HDMI port itself.

Check your HDMI ports for damage or dirt, and ensure the cable is plugged in correctly.

If there is no signal in your TV, but the wires are securely connected, try plugging the TV into another HDMI port (if your TV has another one). If this helps establish a connection, the first HDMI port was likely the culprit.

3. Restart TV and PS5

One of the best ways to resolve connection and performance glitches of most electronics is to reset them.

Doing so refreshes the initialization protocols and overcomes the great majority of common technical problems.

All you need to do is power down both the TV and the PS5, then restart them and see if the connection is established.

4. Check TV’s Input Source

Your PS5 may be connected just fine, but your TV is set to the wrong input source, preventing you from visually confirming the connection.

If you are typically watching something that connects through one HDMI port, but the PS5 is hooked up to another, you need to use your TV’s input toggle to switch between the two.

People who control more than two devices via input channels may utilize a switch (an external hub), which allows multiple HDMI ports to link the TV to several devices.

If the PS5 is one of those devices, you will want to make sure that the correct input channel on the switch is also selected.

5. Update the PS5 System Software

Outdated firmware on the PS5 can also be a source of a host of connectivity problems, so make sure that the PS5 is running the latest software update.

If possible, connect the PS5 to another TV in the house. Here’s how to update your PS5:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Navigate to the System tab.
  • Go to System Software.
  • Locate and select the System Software Update and Settings option.

This will identify if there are any updates necessary and provide an option to load them. Once the update is loaded, try connecting the PS5 to the original TV to see if the problem has been resolved.

6. Check for TV Software Update

Besides updating your PS5, you should also check for and install any available software updates for your TV.

These updates often enhance performance, fix bugs, and improve compatibility. Try updating your TV software from its settings menu to see if that helps.

7. Contact Sony Or the TV Manufacturer

Unfortunately, if nothing else has worked, the issue could be with the hardware of either the PS5 or the TV.

If the PS5 is connected to another TV, it likely isn’t the problem. However, you can also connect some other device to the TV using the same port as the PS5 formerly used and see if the connection works with that.

If either fails this test, you might need to reach out to either your TV brand’s rep or Sony for additional advice.

8. Reset Your TV

If your PS5 is still encountering connectivity issues with your TV, you may find it necessary to reset your TV settings to factory defaults.

This action can effectively address any configuration issues that might be hindering the connection between your TV and PS5.

It’s important to note that performing a factory reset will erase all your customized settings, reverting your TV to its original factory specifications.

9. Reset Your PS5

A factory reset could be a viable solution if you still encounter connection problems between your PS5 and TV despite trying all the above methods.

You should know that initiating a factory reset will wipe all data and settings on your console. So, before proceeding with the reset, consider backing up your data to avoid permanent loss.

To factory set your PS5, follow these steps:

  1. From the home screen, go to the Settings menu.
  2. Scroll to System
  3. Select System Software.
  4. Choose Reset Options.
  5. Select Reset Default Settings.

After the factory reset is complete, the PS5 console will reboot. Follow the on-screen instructions to navigate through the initial setup process.

If the issue persists even after completing the factory reset, you should contact Sony Customer Support for additional assistance.

Wrap-Up: PS5 Not Connecting to TV

PS5s, especially newly purchased ones, are likely still under Sony’s manufacturer’s warranty.

So, if none of the above steps helped, don’t hesitate to contact them or the point of purchase to redeem credit or secure a replacement.

However, in a more likely scenario, we hope that one of the above steps allows you to fix your PS5 HDMI connection issues.
