The Apple Watch Series 10 is shaping up to be more than just another incremental upgrade, with one feature in particular standing out: voice isolation.
As someone who’s made plenty of calls while out and about, I can’t tell you how often background noise has ruined a conversation.
Whether I’m trying to chat on a windy sidewalk or catching up with friends in a bustling coffee shop, it feels like half the time I’m shouting just to be heard. That’s why this new feature caught my eye.
Set to launch next week, the Series 10’s Neural Engine promises to suppress background noise during phone calls and FaceTime audio calls, making your voice clearer and sharper, even in challenging environments.
It will be able to handle everything from windy days to the chaos of a crowded restaurant. It feels like Apple’s trying to fix an everyday problem I’ve dealt with more times than I can count.
Interestingly, this feature is exclusive to the Series 10—Apple Watch Series 9 owners won’t get the same boost.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 does include wind noise reduction, so Apple isn’t keeping the tech entirely under wraps. However, the Series 10 feels like the first true leap forward in terms of call clarity.
While iPhones already have a voice isolation feature for calls, the upcoming iPhone 16 models will also get an upgrade with wind noise reduction.
Apple says machine learning will cut down on interference, but we’ll have to see if the results match the promise.
Pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 10 are currently live, and devices will start shipping on September 20.
