Apple just released iOS 26.5 beta 4, available to both developer accounts and public beta users, so no developer account is needed to try it out.

And if you’re wondering when the final version ships to everyone, Apple has already confirmed May is the target. So the wait isn’t long.

The standout addition in this update lives inside Apple Maps. A new Suggested Places feature now shows up directly in search, surfacing trending spots near you without you having to dig for them.

This will come in handy, especially if you’re standing somewhere unfamiliar and genuinely have no idea where to grab lunch.

Maps has also been quietly preparing for ads. An earlier beta already introduced a splash screen alerting users that sponsored listings are coming to Apple Maps in the US and Canada. That’s still in the mix here, though it hasn’t gone fully live yet.

Apple is still running tests on end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging, which would be a meaningful privacy upgrade for anyone texting between iPhones and Android devices.

It’s been in beta for a few builds now, and developers can poke around with it in the Messages app.

For users in Europe, there’s something a bit different on the table. Apple is testing whether Live Activities can be pushed to third-party accessories, which opens up interesting possibilities for developers building hardware outside Apple’s ecosystem.

There’s also a subscription-related change being explored. The update may allow users to pay for annual subscriptions on a monthly basis at a discounted rate, provided they commit to the full year upfront.

Developers would need to build support for it, but it could change how people manage app spending.

One notable absence from iOS 26.5 is Gemini-powered AI. Apple had been expected to bring Google’s AI into the mix, but that’s been pushed further down the road, likely toward iOS 27 territory. So don’t go in expecting a big intelligence overhaul with this one.
