If you frequently take screenshots on your iPhone, iOS 26 will make your life easier and more powerful.
Tucked quietly into the Settings app, Apple has added a new “Screen Capture” menu under General.

Most people will not stumble across it right away, but it’s a welcome surprise for longtime iPhone users, especially anyone who shares, edits, or archives screenshots regularly.
HDR Screenshot Support Keeps the Full Dynamic Range
The first new option is a toggle for HDR screenshots. When enabled, it preserves the full dynamic range of whatever you’re capturing, which is especially helpful if you’re grabbing images from HDR photos or videos.

Instead of flattening out your screenshots into SDR PNGs, iOS 26 saves them in HEIF format, maintaining the brighter highlights and deeper contrast that actually matches what you see on screen.
Smarter CarPlay Screenshot Controls
Apple has also finally fixed the weird CarPlay screenshot behavior. Before, any time you snapped a screen while connected to CarPlay, it would automatically save both your iPhone and CarPlay displays—even if you only needed one.

With iOS 26, that’s been reversed. You now have to manually enable CarPlay screenshots, which makes way more sense.
Visual Intelligence Brings AI to Screenshots
But the biggest change? Apple is layering in AI. On iPhone 15 Pro and newer, screenshots can now be analyzed by Apple’s new Visual Intelligence features.

After capturing a screenshot, you’ll see new options at the bottom: one for asking questions about the content (powered by ChatGPT), another to find similar images online via Google or Pinterest, and a “Highlight to Search” tool that feels like Live Text on steroids.
A Fresh Screenshot Interface with More Control
The interface has also been redesigned. You can have screenshots now pop up in full-screen mode, but you can switch back to the old thumbnail-in-the-corner style in settings if you prefer.

These might seem minor tweaks, but they show how Apple thinks more deeply about everyday tools like making screenshots smarter, more useful, and more personal.
iOS 26 is currently in beta testing and is expected to launch in September.
