Apple is undergoing significant restructuring by laying off about 200 employees from its Vision Pro and Siri teams.

The tech giant is largely dissolving its Vision Pro gaming team and reducing its immersive video content team. This decision comes as Apple realigns its priorities, reflecting how customers are actually using these products.

Despite their efforts, the immersive video content has not gained the traction Apple hoped for, with production costs running into millions and user engagement remaining low.

The Vision Pro employees were informed that the company is shifting its focus due to the lack of widespread adoption of immersive video and gaming features.

Consequently, Apple plans to produce fewer in-house videos and will rely more on third-party 3D content to fill the gap.

In parallel, the Siri team is also facing cuts, although there is a strategic pivot towards enhancing AI capabilities.

Apple is creating new roles that focus on AI advancements, hinting at a shift in how Siri will function in future products. The company stated that these changes are part of an effort to evolve its business and improve customer experiences.

Affected employees are being given opportunities to apply for other roles within Apple, ensuring a smoother transition during this restructuring phase.

Despite these layoffs, Apple is not abandoning its Vision Pro or visionOS operating systems. The company remains committed to its development and is continuing to work on AI-driven smart glasses, anticipated for release in 2027.

However, these upcoming devices will not feature 3D gaming or video capabilities, reflecting a clear strategic shift in Apple’s approach to its vision products.
