If you’ve ever wondered when Apple Wallet would finally grow up and become a true digital wallet, iOS 26 might be the turning point.

Tucked into the latest update is a small but incredibly meaningful upgrade: the ability to store full credit and debit card information, including the card number, expiration date, security code, and even the name on the card.

For years, the Wallet app has been a glorified front for Apple Pay transactions, offering only the last four digits of non-Apple cards.

If you ever needed your full card number for a web purchase or customer support call, you’d still have to use a third-party password manager or pull out the actual card. Not anymore.

Now, when you tap into any saved card in the Wallet app, you’ll see a new option: Add Physical Card Information.

Once enabled, the full details are saved securely encrypted and synced through iCloud Keychain, just like your passwords. Apple emphasizes that this data isn’t used for Apple Pay and is viewable only by you.

This change has been coming for a long time. When Apple introduced the standalone Passwords app last year, it was widely praised—but also criticized for missing one key feature: support for storing credit cards.

It felt like a strange omission, especially since the competition (1Password, Bitwarden, even Chrome) has offered this for years.

Instead of shoehorning that feature into Passwords, Apple made the smarter move by expanding Wallet’s utility.

It’s the more logical home for your card data, and this addition quietly strengthens the app’s place at the center of your digital life.

Of course, Apple’s goal is still to make your iPhone the only thing you carry. Between Apple Pay, ID support in select states, event tickets, transit passes, and now full card info, we’re getting closer to a future where wallets become relics.
