If you’ve ever found yourself constantly fiddling with your iPhone’s orientation lock, you’re not alone.

Imagine you’re watching a YouTube video or browsing through photos, and suddenly, you want to flip your phone to get a better view.

But, oops, your screen orientation is locked. Now, you have to swipe down to open Control Center, find the screen orientation lock, and turn it off.

It’s a minor inconvenience, but one that happens often enough to be frustrating.

Here’s a nifty tip that can save you from that hassle—setting up a shortcut that automatically adjusts your orientation lock depending on the app you’re using.

Whether you’re a frequent YouTube watcher or someone who loves browsing photos, this tip will make your iPhone experience even smoother.

Use Shortcuts to Lock Your iPhone’s Orientation for Specific Apps

First, open the Shortcuts app and navigate to the “Automations” tab. Then, tap the plus icon at the upper right to create a new automation.

  1. Check both “Is Open” and “Is Closed.”
  2. Select “Run Immediately.”
  3. Turn off “Notify When Run.”

This will activate the automation without sending you notifications.

Now, select the app you want this to apply by tapping “Choose” at the upper right and then “Done.”

For the sake of this guide, we’ll choose YouTube, but you can choose whatever app better fits your needs.

Tap “Next” in the top right corner. In the search bar, type “Set Orientation Lock” and select the result.

Wrap Up

Now, every time you open YouTube, your screen will automatically unlock, allowing you to rotate your phone.

And when you leave the app, the lock kicks back in, keeping your screen orientation just the way you like it.

This little trick makes your iPhone smarter, saving you time and making your experience more seamless.

So go ahead, set up this shortcut, and enjoy your phone a little more every day.
