Apple hasn’t shown everything the iPhone Duo can do in StandBy mode. New details uncovered in iOS 27 reveal five additional StandBy faces for Apple’s first foldable, including one that can display as many as nine HomeKit camera feeds at once and another built around smart home controls.
The findings come from localization strings inside Rushmore, an app that appears to power the redesigned StandBy experience on the iPhone Duo.
The app is missing from the current iOS 27.1 simulator, but several of its hidden faces can already be loaded using the existing renderer.
Your Duo can become a Home camera monitor
One of the unreleased faces is called Home Camera. It can show a single camera feed or a grid containing as many as nine feeds, potentially turning a Duo sitting on a desk, kitchen counter, or nightstand into a small security camera monitor.
Another face called Home Modular appears to bring smart home controls into StandBy, giving you access to Home accessories without leaving the ambient display.
Snoopy is also coming to StandBy. The face brings the Peanuts character to the Duo after Apple previously introduced an animated Snoopy face for Apple Watch.
Two additional faces are referenced in the code. Flow appears to use animations, while the strings don’t reveal enough about Fade to establish what it will look like.
Apple has already shown Analog, Digital, Classic Calendar, Weather, Photos, Memories, Shared Albums, and Modular faces in its iPhone Duo marketing.
StandBy doesn’t need a charger on the Duo
The iPhone Duo also changes one of the biggest restrictions of StandBy on a regular iPhone.
Current iPhones need to be charging before StandBy activates. The Duo can enter StandBy without being plugged in when it’s folded into the appropriate position and placed on a surface.
That makes faces such as Home Camera considerably more practical. You could prop the Duo on a desk and use its large inner display to keep several cameras visible without having to connect a charger first.
Apple is also giving the Duo’s StandBy faces more customization options. A face editor lets you change styles and colors with swipe gestures. Faces that support widgets can use five layouts labeled StandBy, Stacked, Top, Middle, and Bottom.
Apple hasn’t publicly announced the five additional faces, so details could still change before they’re released. iPhone Duo preorders begin October 16, with the phone arriving October 23.
