Apple is expected to introduce a new iPad mini with an OLED display before the end of October, according to a new report.
If the timeline holds, it would mark the biggest upgrade to the compact tablet since the current model debuted in late 2024.
The display is expected to be the headline feature. Apple’s iPad Pro switched to OLED last year, but the rest of the lineup, including the iPad mini, iPad Air, and entry-level iPad, still relies on LCD technology.
Moving to OLED would give the iPad mini deeper blacks, better contrast, and more vibrant colors. Because each pixel produces its own light, OLED screens also improve dark mode and HDR content while eliminating the grayish blacks common on LCD panels.
Expect a Higher Price
The improved display may also make the next iPad mini more expensive. OLED panels cost significantly more to produce than LCD displays, and Apple has traditionally reflected those higher component costs in retail pricing.
The OLED-equipped iPad Pro launched at a higher price than its predecessor, and the same could happen with the next iPad mini.
The display won’t be the only upgrade. The device is also expected to receive a much faster processor, moving from the current A17 Pro chip to either an A19 Pro or A20.
That would provide a noticeable boost in performance while improving support for Apple Intelligence features that rely on on-device processing.
Better Audio and Durability
Apple is reportedly developing a new vibration-based speaker system for the iPad mini, replacing the traditional speaker design used today. The change could improve audio quality while allowing for a more compact internal layout.
The tablet is also expected to offer better water resistance, making it more resilient against accidental spills and brief exposure to moisture.
Combined, the rumored upgrades address several of the biggest complaints about the current iPad mini, including its aging LCD display, limited audio performance, and durability.
Apple has not officially announced the new iPad mini, and pricing remains unknown. However, if the reported schedule is accurate, the device should arrive before the end of October.
