Losing your iPhone is terrifying. Your whole life is on there. Messages, photos, passwords, banking info.
Over the last couple of years, thieves have become way too clever. Some now watch people type in their passcodes at bars, gyms, or coffee shops, snatch their phones, and gain full access. It’s scary stuff.
That’s why Apple’s “Stolen Device Protection” feature is such a big deal. It’s a powerful barrier that makes it nearly impossible for thieves to access your data, even if they somehow obtain your passcode.

Here’s how it works: once enabled, certain sensitive actions, such as accessing passwords, making purchases, or changing your Apple ID, require Face ID or Touch ID.

A passcode alone won’t cut it. And there’s more. If someone tries to change your Apple ID password or disable this feature, they will be required to wait a mandatory one-hour delay and complete two separate biometric scans. That gives you precious time to mark your phone as lost.

And here’s the part I love most: it all happens automatically when you’re outside of familiar locations like home or work—no extra effort. But if you’re extra cautious (or travel a lot), you can even set it to be active all the time.
If you haven’t turned this on yet, do yourself a favor and take a minute today. Your future self might just thank you.
To turn it on, head to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Stolen Device Protection. It should take less than a minute and give you some serious peace of mind.
