Apple is automatically upgrading some customers who ordered an M4 Mac mini that hasn’t shipped yet, swapping their purchase for the newly announced M6 model at no extra charge.
The company sent affected buyers an email this week confirming the change: “As you may know, Apple recently announced the new Mac mini.
Since your order has yet to ship, we automatically upgraded you to the new Mac mini at no additional cost.”
Apple announced the M6 Mac mini on August 25, alongside a new Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chip options. Both machines are available to pre-order now and launch September 22.
Because the new Mac mini starts at $899 in the United States compared to $799 for the M4 model, customers receiving the upgrade are effectively getting a $100 discount on the newer machine.
The M6 brings a generational chip improvement over the M4, which Apple released in November 2024.
The updated Mac mini is available with either an M6 or M5 Pro chip. Apple also introduced a new N1 networking chip in the lineup. Pre-orders are open now ahead of the September 22 launch date.
If you haven’t seen an upgrade email yet, your best bet is to check your order status online or reach out directly to Apple Support. Apple hasn’t publicly detailed which orders qualify or how broad this rollout actually is.
