We’ve been waiting for a new Apple monitor for so long that the current Studio Display still has an A13 chip.
That’s the same processor from the iPhone 11. It’s 2026, and we’re still paying $1,600 for a 60Hz screen with no HDR. It’s frankly a weird product.
But it looks like Apple is finally about to refresh the lineup. A new model number, A3350, has appeared in a Chinese regulatory database. The filing calls it a “high-performance LCD,” which is the biggest clue we’ve had in years.
If you’re using a Mac Studio or a MacBook Pro, you know the struggle. You want Apple’s build quality, but the current specs lag behind those of their other products. This filing basically confirms a few things:
Since the filing specifically lists this as an LCD, it’s a safe bet that Apple is sticking with mini-LED rather than moving to OLED.
That’s actually a win for most of us because it stays bright enough for a sunlit office and eliminates the constant worry of the macOS menu bar burning into the glass.
The timing here is also telling: the original Studio Display hit this exact same database about three months before it went on sale, which aligns perfectly with an announcement this spring.
The big hope is that Apple finally gives us ProMotion. If they try to sell another 60Hz monitor in 2026, it’s going to feel incredibly dated compared to the smooth scrolling we’ve all grown used to on our iPhones and MacBooks.
Apple is also reportedly prepping the M5 version of the Mac Studio. It’s been Apple’s pattern to launch a new display alongside a new desktop, so a joint announcement in March or April makes a lot of sense.
We don’t have the price or the port count yet, but the fact that a new model number actually exists is the first real sign of life from Apple’s display team in a long time.
Does this sound like the kind of update that would actually make you upgrade your current desk setup, or are you waiting to see the price tag first?
