Apple Reminders Just Quietly Killed My Need for Todoist and Things 3—And I’ve Never Been Happier

For years, I was a loyal fan of third-party task managers. I had Todoist, Things 3, and every other productivity app you could imagine.

They all promised to streamline my life, keep me organized, and make me feel like I had everything under control.

But after using Apple’s native Reminders app for a few months now, I’ve had a major change of heart—and honestly, I’m not going back.

Also: This one-tap shortcut just became my favorite iOS 18.4 feature—and it’s not even close

The shift happened with iOS 18. Apple quietly introduced a feature I didn’t even know I needed: the ability to reorder sections in your Today list.

This might sound small, but it’s been a game-changer for someone who constantly struggled with overdue tasks cluttering up the top of my list.

Before iOS 18, Apple’s Reminders app had the same Today view setup as it always had: overdue tasks went straight to the top, followed by all-day reminders and timed reminders.

The problem was that overdue tasks were rarely the most pressing items on my agenda. They were things I had missed from yesterday (or last week), not tasks that needed immediate attention. So, they always got in the way of more urgent things.

But with this tiny new iOS 18 feature, I can now move the overdue section to the bottom of my list. It may seem trivial, but it has greatly changed how I prioritize my day.

Now, the things I actually need to get done today—things with specific deadlines or time slots—are front and center. Overdue tasks are still there, but now I can get to them when I’m ready.

Now, Reminders is a tool I actually look forward to using. It’s simple, intuitive, and, thanks to that small adjustment, much more aligned with how I think about my to-dos.

I didn’t need another app with a ton of features I would never use. All I needed was a simple tweak to make my existing setup work better for me.

Trust me, if you haven’t tried this feature yet, give it a go. Apple’s Reminders may just be the app you didn’t realize you were looking for.
