Apple has released the first release candidate of macOS 27.2 Golden Gate to developers and public beta testers, bringing the next Mac software update closer to its public debut.
Arriving a week after beta 4, the new build expands Siri’s AI language support and introduces changes that could tie into Apple’s upcoming touchscreen MacBook Pro.
Siri AI Expands Beyond English
The biggest confirmed addition is support for five more languages in Siri’s AI features:
- French
- Japanese
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Spanish
Until now, the new Siri experience has been limited to English since its launch last month.
Apple promised broader language availability during its Surprise and Shine event, and macOS 27.2 brings that expansion to Mac users.
New Gesture Support Raises Touchscreen Questions
Beyond Siri, several built-in macOS apps have gained new gesture-recognition tools, though Apple hasn’t explained their purpose.
Their appearance is particularly interesting ahead of the company’s October 28 Pro and Tell event, where Apple is expected to debut its first touchscreen MacBook Pro.
The new hardware is rumored to feature an OLED display alongside touch input, marking a significant departure from Apple’s longstanding approach to Mac interaction.
Still, there’s no confirmation that the gesture-related changes in macOS 27.2 are intended for touchscreen Macs. Their timing simply adds another piece to the speculation surrounding next week’s announcements.
An Electron App Bug Remains a Concern
One issue worth watching involves Electron-based applications, including Slack, Visual Studio Code, and Notion.
In beta 4, some users encountered a bug that caused app windows to stop responding when dragged. Restarting the Mac temporarily restored normal behavior, but the problem could return.
It’s not yet clear whether Apple has addressed the issue in this release candidate. Anyone who relies heavily on affected apps may want to wait for confirmation before installing the update.
Macs enrolled in Apple’s beta program can access the first release candidate through System Settings > General > Software Update.
Apple hasn’t announced a public release date for macOS 27.2, but release candidates generally arrive one to two weeks before the final version.
