Before You Spend Money on Apple’s First HomeView, There’s a Good Reason to Wonder if You’re About to Buy the Wrong One

Apple has barely introduced its first HomeView smart home hub, but it’s already developing a more ambitious version.

The company is reportedly working on a premium model with a larger 9-inch display attached to a robotic arm that can rotate 360 degrees.

According to new details about Apple’s smart home plans, the device could arrive in 2027 or 2028, giving Apple time to expand on the standard HomeView announced October 13.

That model features a fixed 7-inch Liquid Retina display, an A18 chip, and Siri AI support. It’s available for pre-order now, with retail availability beginning November 13.

The higher-end version would take a different approach. Instead of staying fixed in one position, its motorized display could turn to face different parts of a room, making it easier for family members to interact with the screen wherever they’re sitting or standing.

Apple Has Bigger Plans for HomeView

The idea of a robotic smart home display isn’t entirely new. Earlier reports on Apple’s motorized display project described a device that could move its screen to follow users around a room.

A 360-degree rotating display would give Apple something noticeably different from Amazon’s Echo Hub and Google’s Nest Hub Max, both of which use stationary screens.

Several possible names have also surfaced, including HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra, and HomeView 360. These are speculative suggestions, not official product names, and Apple hasn’t confirmed a second model is coming.

The premium HomeView could also address one of the biggest questions surrounding Apple’s first smart home hub: what makes it worth buying over an iPad mounted on a stand?

A larger screen that automatically turns toward whoever is using it would offer a more distinctive experience, particularly in kitchens and shared living spaces.

For now, Apple’s focus remains on getting the original HomeView into customers’ hands on November 13. The robotic version is still at least a year away, and its final design, pricing, and release date remain unknown.
