The upcoming iOS 18 update for iPhones will bring a host of new features to the Phone app, significantly improving its functionality and user experience.

One of the most anticipated improvements, aside from the call recording feature, is the addition of a searchable call history, a feature that has long been available on Android.

This might seem like a minor tweak, but it addresses a significant gap in the app’s functionality that has persisted through previous versions.

Previously, the iPhone’s Phone app allowed you to search for contacts by name in the Contacts tab.

However, this search feature was not available in the Recents tab, where the call history is displayed.

This meant that you had to manually scroll through a potentially long list of recent calls to find a specific entry.

This process was time-consuming and inconvenient, especially if you make a lot of calls on a regular basis.

With iOS 18, Apple has finally addressed this issue by adding a search bar at the top of the Recents tab. This allows you to quickly search for names or numbers within your call history.

Search call history on iPhone with iOS 18

Simply open the Phone app, navigate to the Recents tab, and type a name or number into the search bar.

The app will then display matching entries from your call history, making it much easier to locate specific calls.

One particularly useful aspect of this feature is the ability to search for dates. For example, typing “July 13, 2024” will condense the results to show only the calls made or received on that date.

This will be incredibly handy for tracking down a specific call without having to scroll through an extensive list of entries.

What do you think about your iPhone finally allowing you to search the call history of a single contact by name or date?
