After Years of Disappointment, watchOS 27 Beta 3 Finally Makes Siri on Apple Watch Feel Worth Using Again

Apple has activated the smarter version of Siri on Apple Watch for the first time, rolling out the feature in the third beta of watchOS 27, released Monday.

The upgrade gives Watch owners access to the same AI-powered Siri that iPhone and iPad users have been using, directly from their wrist.

When you press the Digital Crown, the Siri app now appears at the center of the Dynamic App Grid. From there, the upgraded assistant can handle the kind of extended, context-aware requests that the old Siri consistently fumbled.

I tested it by asking it to generate a heart-healthy ice cream recipe and then instructing it to add the ingredients to a Reminders grocery list and save the recipe to Notes, all while his iPhone sat in another room. It handled all three steps without issue.

Your iPhone Does the Heavy Lifting

The Apple Watch does not process these requests on its own. Siri AI on the Watch offloads the actual computation to a nearby Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone, which means the feature requires an iPhone within range.

Standard Siri functions, including reminders and texts, continue to work over Wi-Fi or cellular on compatible Watch models, even when the iPhone is off or elsewhere.

That processing dependency has already drawn criticism from Watch owners who noticed that Apple used watchOS 27 compatibility cuts, which dropped support for the Series 8, first-generation Ultra, and second-generation SE, to justify a feature that ultimately runs on the phone anyway.

Apple Watch models currently supported by watchOS 27 include the Series 9, Series 10, Series 11, Ultra 2, Ultra 3, and SE 3.

Conversations Follow You Across Devices

Anything you discuss with Siri on your Watch syncs to the Siri app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

A conversation started on the Watch can continue on a larger screen without restarting, which changes how people might use the Watch as a quick entry point for tasks they plan to finish elsewhere.

Apple had announced Siri AI for Apple Watch when watchOS 27 was first previewed at WWDC 2026, but the feature was absent from the first two betas.

Its arrival in beta 3 puts it on track for the public release expected this fall alongside new iPhone hardware.

Users running the developer beta can access it now on supported Watch models paired with an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone.
