Apple’s watchOS 27 update includes a range of usability improvements, but one of the most practical changes centers on gesture controls.

One of the more practical watchOS 27 updates involves the pinch gesture. Users can bring two fingers together to select widgets, making it easier to interact with the watch when only one hand is available.

Apple is also redesigning the App Grid. Instead of presenting every app equally, watchOS 27 can surface five suggested apps based on recent activity, location, and usage patterns.

The remaining apps remain available through the standard grid, but the update gives frequently used apps more prominent placement.

Wallet is gaining support for custom passes created from QR codes and barcodes. Users can turn items such as library cards, gym memberships, and loyalty programs into watch-accessible passes.

Transit cards and supported government IDs can also appear automatically in the Smart Stack when relevant.

Another addition, called Call Context, surfaces information related to a phone call directly on the watch.

During Apple’s WWDC demonstration, the feature displayed an airline confirmation code pulled from Mail while a call was in progress, reducing the need to search through other apps for reference information.

Find My is also receiving a redesign. The separate views for people, devices, and items are being combined into a single map-based interface intended to simplify navigation.

Elsewhere, Apple says watchOS 27 improves battery efficiency, reduces launch times for apps and Music, and enhances Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Smart Stack is becoming more context-aware as well, surfacing information such as transit card balances, sleep schedule adjustments, and reminders tied to upcoming events.

Apple has also updated its Liquid Glass design language for the Apple Watch, introducing visual refinements to improve contrast and readability throughout the interface.
