Apple is expected to release tvOS 27.2 this week, bringing three improvements to Apple TV 4K, including more flexible screen savers, greater control over personal photos, and sign language support for select movies and shows.

The update focuses on features viewers already use, making it easier to personalize the Apple TV experience and access content in different ways.

1. Screen Savers Can Finally Shuffle Between Categories

Apple TV offers several screen saver categories, including Aerials, Memories and Slideshows, Portraits, and Snoopy.

Until now, choosing one category meant sticking with it unless you manually changed the setting.

tvOS 27.2 introduces a new Shuffle option that automatically rotates between available screen savers across different categories throughout the day.

That means your Apple TV can switch from scenic aerial footage to family photos or Snoopy animations without requiring you to change settings each time.

2. You Can Choose Which Photos Appear

The update also gives users more control over screen savers that display personal photos.

When setting up Memories and Slideshows or Portraits, you’ll be able to manually select content from your iPhone or iPad instead of letting Apple TV pull from your entire photo library.

This is useful if you want family pictures on the television without unexpectedly showing private or unrelated images.

The new controls make it easier to decide exactly what appears when your Apple TV is idle.

Also: It only took Apple a decade to finally fix one of the most annoying iPhone problems that makes muting conversations feel pointless

3. Apple TV Adds Sign Language Support

Another important addition is built-in support for American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) in the Apple TV app.

For supported movies and shows, viewers can select a sign language option directly from the video player’s controls.

Unlike traditional subtitles, sign language interpretation can communicate expressions and tone through visual signing.

However, availability depends on whether individual titles include the necessary sign language tracks. Apple hasn’t confirmed how much content will support the feature at launch.

What Isn’t Included in tvOS 27.2

Two anticipated Apple TV features are still coming later.

Siri AI support for second- and third-generation Apple TV 4K models isn’t enabled in this update.

Apple’s upcoming fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, scheduled for November 13, will include Siri AI alongside support for a new four-HomePod surround sound configuration.

Neither addition is part of next week’s tvOS 27.2 release.

The update reached release candidate status on October 19, with a public rollout expected next week.
