Apple pulled the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max from its online store on Wednesday after announcing their successors, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, at its September 9 event in Cupertino.
The retirement follows Apple’s standard pattern of discontinuing Pro models as soon as new ones are unveiled.
Both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which launched last year at Apple’s “Awe dropping” event, are now unavailable through Apple’s official channels. Buyers who want a current Pro model will need to step up to the iPhone 18 generation.
What the iPhone 17 Pro offered
The iPhone 17 Pro arrived with several notable hardware changes from its predecessor.
Apple swapped the iPhone 16 Pro’s titanium frame for an aluminum unibody design that incorporated an Apple-designed vapor chamber to keep thermals in check during demanding tasks.
Both the 6.3-inch Pro and 6.9-inch Pro Max kept their display sizes from the previous generation.
On the camera front, the 17 Pro brought a triple-lens rear system with 48-megapixel sensors across all three cameras, including a 48-megapixel telephoto capable of 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom.
The front camera upgraded to 18 megapixels with Center Stage support. Under the hood, both models run on the A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM. The iPhone 17 Pro launched at $1,099, with the Pro Max starting at $1,199.
The new lineup and what it costs
With those models gone, Apple’s current Pro tier starts at $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, each up $100 from their 17-series counterparts. The 18 Pro also gains 2TB storage as a new option on the smaller model for the first time.
Wednesday’s event also saw Apple introduce the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, priced at $1,999 for the base 256GB configuration and available with storage options reaching 2TB.
Separately, Apple raised the prices of several existing models still in its lineup, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17e.
