Apple is preparing to unveil a redesigned MacBook Pro on October 28, bringing OLED displays and touchscreen support to the Mac for the first time.
The company has invited select media to Los Angeles for a hands-on event called “Pro and Tell.” Instead of a traditional livestreamed keynote, Apple is expected to announce the products through press releases around 9 a.m. Eastern.
Several other devices are reportedly on the agenda, including an updated entry-level MacBook Pro, a new iMac, and the long-awaited OLED iPad mini 8.
A MacBook Pro With OLED, Touchscreen, and Dynamic Island
The biggest announcement is expected to be Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook Pro, available in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations.
Both models will reportedly feature OLED displays, delivering deeper blacks and improved contrast than the mini-LED panels in current MacBook Pros.
Apple is also adapting macOS 27 to support touch gestures, letting users interact directly with the screen while keeping the traditional keyboard and trackpad experience.
To accommodate touch input, the laptops are expected to feature reinforced hinges that prevent the display from wobbling when tapped.
Another visible change involves the notch. Apple reportedly plans to replace it with a Dynamic Island, bringing the familiar iPhone interface element to the Mac for the first time.
Despite the display upgrades, the new MacBook Pros aren’t expected to introduce faster processors. Instead, they’ll reportedly retain the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the models released earlier this year.
Apple may keep selling those existing mini-LED versions as more affordable alternatives, with the new OLED configurations priced higher.
M6 MacBook Pro and iMac Updates
Apple is also expected to update the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac with its new M6 chip.
Unlike the high-end MacBook Pro models, neither device is getting a redesign, with Apple focusing on faster performance while keeping their existing designs.
The updates would give buyers who don’t need the more expensive OLED MacBook Pro another reason to consider Apple’s existing lineup.

iPad mini 8 Could Bring OLED and Water Resistance
Apple is also expected to introduce the iPad mini 8, potentially making it the first non-Pro iPad to feature an OLED display.
Beyond the screen upgrade, the compact tablet could receive a redesigned speaker system that uses vibrations to produce sound, eliminating the need for traditional speaker grilles.
That change could help Apple introduce water resistance to the iPad mini for the first time, although the exact protection rating remains unknown.
Other potential upgrades include a landscape-oriented front camera and the A20 Pro chip used in the iPhone 18 Pro.
One important question remains unanswered: whether the OLED display will retain a 60Hz refresh rate or finally introduce 120Hz ProMotion.
These improvements could come at a considerable cost. The iPad mini 8 is expected to start around $200 higher than the current $599 model, potentially bringing its starting price to roughly $799.
Apple could open pre-orders for the new devices immediately after the October 28 announcements, with retail availability reportedly targeted for Friday, November 6.
