Apple Just Made a 4-Year-Old Device $100 More Expensive, and Buyers Can’t Believe What They’re Paying For Now

Apple raised prices on the Apple TV, HomePod, and HomePod mini on June 25, 2026, with some models jumping by $100 before any new hardware had shipped.

The increases take effect immediately across all three product lines.

  • Apple TV (Wi-Fi): $199 (was $129)
  • Apple TV (Wi-Fi + Ethernet): $249 (was $149)
  • HomePod: $349 (was $299)
  • HomePod mini: $129 (was $99)

Anyone who was planning to buy one of these devices this week is paying significantly more than they would have paid just a few days ago.

Apple Blames a Memory Chip Shortage

Apple pointed to a global memory chip shortage as the reason behind the hikes, citing rapid cost increases for the RAM and SSD storage used across its product lineup.

In a statement to media, the company said it has never seen component prices rise this much, this fast. The same shortage has pushed up prices on Macs and iPads as well.

The Apple TV with Ethernet saw a $100 increase despite containing no SSD storage, a detail that has drawn skepticism from buyers who feel the explanation does not fully account for the size of that particular jump.

You Are Paying More for Hardware That Is Years Old

None of these products have been updated in years. The HomePod mini first went on sale in October 2020. The current Apple TV 4K and the second-generation full-sized HomePod arrived in late 2022 and early 2023.

At this point, the chips inside them trace back to iPhone and Apple Watch models that are several generations behind current hardware.

Updated versions of all three devices are expected later in 2026. Apple has been holding the new hardware back while it waits for a more capable version of Siri to be ready for release.

That updated Siri is currently available in developer betas of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

What the Next Versions Are Expected to Offer

The next Apple TV is expected to include the A17 Pro chip, which is the minimum required to support Apple Intelligence features. Earlier hardware has been ruled out for that capability.

The new model is also expected to gain Apple’s N1 chip, which handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity. Gurman noted that the Siri Remote may receive a refresh, though no specifics have been confirmed.

The updated HomePod mini is expected to move to an S9 chip or newer, and to add the N1 chip and an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip. Improved audio quality and a red color option have both appeared in earlier supply chain reports.
