Apple didn’t exactly throw a party for iOS 18.4 — but if you love taking photos with your iPhone, this quiet update is worth celebrating.
Buried inside the latest software drop are some surprisingly thoughtful upgrades to the Photos app that could seriously clean up your camera roll.
One of the most helpful things is that you can now toggle off “Recently Viewed” and “Recently Shared” sections.
That means less clutter and more control, especially if you’re the type who scrolls through thousands of shots looking for that one perfect image.

Apple also added new filter options: “Shared With You” and “Not in an Album.” These make it easier to isolate images that might’ve been lost in the noise, like a great snapshot a friend AirDropped or that one-off image you forgot to organize.

And here’s a small-but-mighty tweak photographers will love: you can now sort your albums by “Date Modified.”

It’s a subtle change, but it brings a new layer of logic to album organization — especially when you’re juggling dozens of folders across different projects or trips.

Cleanup got easier, too. You can now bulk delete or restore multiple photos at once — no more tapping the trash icon 87 times just to make room for your next shoot.

These changes don’t scream headline news but reflect something Apple fans know all too well: the real magic happens in the details.
iOS 18.4 might not be the flashiest update of the year, but for iPhone photographers, it’s a low-key gift that streamlines your workflow and gives you more time behind the lens — exactly where you want to be.
