Apple’s iOS 26 is officially here, rolling out to the public alongside the brand-new iPhone 17 lineup. And now that it’s live on millions of devices, we can say this isn’t just another yearly refresh.
Apple has delivered a sweeping mix of visual updates, smarter AI tools, and small but meaningful tweaks that make the iPhone feel both more powerful and more personal.
The new iPhones may be grabbing headlines, but iOS 26 is just as important. After spending time with the final version, these are the 10 features that stand out the most.
Spam Filtering That Actually Works
iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 now block spam texts and calls across the board. Those fake toll notices, sketchy job offers, and scam tax refunds? Gone. Spam calls and voicemails? Also gone.

Everything suspicious is routed to a quiet filter you never have to deal with. It feels like the kind of universal protection carriers should have offered years ago, but Apple has stepped in and solved it at the system level.

Live Translation Across Apps
Apple Intelligence now powers real-time translation directly inside Messages, FaceTime, and even standard phone calls.

It’s instant, it’s two-way, and it’s all processed on-device. Whether you’re traveling abroad or working across languages, this turns your iPhone into a pocket interpreter that works in text, video, and audio.
Your iPhone Understands What’s On Screen
Visual Intelligence is Apple’s most ambitious AI feature so far. Long-press an image, then tap Look Up to search it instantly. Or you can also tap the starred info button at the bottom.

Before you can use this feature, you need to turn it on in the Settings app. Go to Settings > Search, and make sure you have Show Related Content turned on.
If you need more context, just ask ChatGPT without leaving the app you’re in. It’s context-aware computing that keeps your data private by running entirely on your device.

Camera and Photos Clean-Up
The Camera app finally streamlines its cluttered interface, making it easier to focus on shooting rather than fumbling through settings.

In Photos, Apple split the Library and Collections tabs, which makes navigation faster and more logical. Pair that with iOS 26’s refreshed design language, and the whole experience feels lighter.
Apple Music Upgrades
Two updates stand out. AutoMix blends songs into seamless transitions that feel like you’ve got a DJ running your playlist.

Lyrics Translation lets you read and understand tracks in other languages, which makes global music far more accessible. Bonus: You can now pin favorite songs for quick access.
Call Screening and Hold Assist
The Phone app gets serious quality-of-life improvements. Call Screening forces unknown callers to identify themselves before you pick up.

Hold Assist takes over when you’re stuck waiting for customer service and alerts you when a real person finally answers. Both features are instantly useful and polished in a way only Apple tends to pull off.
More Customization in Messages
Messages backgrounds bring a new layer of personality to chats, with custom wallpapers that everyone in the thread can see.

The app also adds smarter filters, group polls, typing indicators in group conversations, and Apple Cash support inside group threads.

And yes, you can finally copy just part of a text instead of the entire message. It took forever, but it’s here.
CarPlay Refinements
Incoming calls now slide in unobtrusively instead of blocking maps. Messages get Tapbacks and pinned threads.

Widgets and Live Activities help you keep track of what’s important while driving. It’s not a total overhaul, but the refinements make CarPlay smoother and safer.
Custom Snooze Durations
After decades of a rigid nine-minute snooze, you can finally set custom snooze intervals between one and fifteen minutes.

The only downside is that the snooze button is now huge, which might make oversleeping easier than ever.
Collapsing Navigation Bars
Safari, Apple Music, News, and Podcasts all now feature shrinking navigation bars when you scroll.

In Safari, that means more room for content with only a slim bar showing the URL. Scroll back up or tap the bar to bring controls back. It’s one of those subtle changes that immediately feels natural.
