Apple has released the first release candidates of iPadOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2 to developers, bringing the next round of software updates closer to public availability.
With testing entering its final stage, the updates could arrive as early as next week, ahead of the end of October.
Release candidates are generally the same builds Apple distributes publicly, unless last-minute testing uncovers problems that require another version.
This round of updates is also unusual because Apple is skipping version 27.1 for most devices, reportedly reserving it for the iPhone Duo. As a result, 27.2 will be the first significant update since the original September release for many users.
What’s New in iPadOS 27.2
iPadOS 27.2 introduces several features across Apple’s built-in apps, including improvements to Siri, Messages, and Apple Music.
Here’s what’s coming:
- Siri: A new contextual pop-up similar to the one available on Mac, alongside expanded AI language support.
- Apple TV: Profiles support, letting household members keep separate watchlists and personalized recommendations.
- Messages: Suggested Actions that offer relevant shortcuts based on conversation context.
- Apple Podcasts: A redesigned Up Next queue for managing upcoming episodes.
- Apple Music: A new app icon and additional interface changes.
- Home: New automation controls for compatible smart locks.
The expanded Siri language support is particularly important for users who couldn’t access Apple’s newest AI capabilities when they launched in English last month.
watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2
Alongside the iPad update, Apple has made release candidates available for Apple Watch and Vision Pro.
So far, the company hasn’t detailed every change coming to watchOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2. Additional improvements or bug fixes may become clearer as developers spend more time testing the final builds.
For now, iPadOS 27.2 appears to bring the more noticeable collection of new features, while the Apple Watch and Vision Pro updates remain less clearly documented.
Apple hasn’t confirmed a public release date for any of the three updates. However, release candidates typically arrive within about a week of general availability, putting a rollout before the end of October within reach.
