Apple has seeded a beta of macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 to developers and public beta testers, with release notes indicating the update contains security fixes for the Mac.
The build arrives just four days after macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 shipped as a public release, making it one of the faster follow-up security updates Apple has pushed in recent memory.
Those enrolled in Apple’s developer or public beta programs can access the update through System Settings by navigating to the Software Update section.
The release notes don’t specify which vulnerabilities are being addressed, which is typical for beta-stage security updates.
A rapid succession of security patches
The previous update, macOS 26.6.1, patched a specific and serious flaw: a vulnerability that could allow an attacker to authenticate to Screen Sharing without valid credentials.
That kind of flaw could let someone gain remote access to a Mac without a password, which likely explains why Apple moved quickly to ship the fix rather than bundling it into a larger release.
With 26.6.2 now in beta only days later, Apple appears to be addressing additional issues discovered around the same time.
Some observers in developer communities have noted that the build number, 25G82, lacks the trailing letter that typically marks a pre-release beta, suggesting it may actually be a release candidate rather than a standard testing build.
Release candidates generally represent the version Apple intends to ship publicly if no blocking issues emerge.
What Mac users should expect
For everyday Mac users not enrolled in any beta program, the update isn’t yet available. Once Apple finalizes 26.6.2 and pushes it publicly, it will appear in System Settings under Software Update like any other point release.
Given that 26.6.1 shipped publicly on August 6, a general release for 26.6.2 could follow within days if the beta period is short.
Apple has not published a support page detailing the specific CVEs or vulnerabilities targeted in 26.6.2.
