Apple Is Taking One of the iPhone’s Smartest Features Somewhere Most People Never Expected It to Go

Apple CarPlay is moving beyond the road. Starting with the 2027 model year boats, MasterCraft Boat Holdings will ship CarPlay as standard equipment on all new Crest Conquest, Crest Caribbean, Balise Conquest, and Balise Caribbean pontoons.

The partnership involves navigation app Savvy Navvy, which provides the water-specific features CarPlay lacks on its own.

Apple Maps does not support nautical charts or on-water routing. Savvy Navvy fills that gap directly on the helm display, showing GPS position, smart routing, live weather forecasts, and nautical charts alongside standard CarPlay apps like music and messaging.

Apple’s CarPlay Heads onto the Water

Boaters can plan a route on their phone before leaving the dock. When they step aboard and connect, the route is already loaded at the helm. It completely skips the hassle of manual syncing or re-entering waypoints on a standalone GPS.

That workflow is one of the bigger practical shifts here. Dedicated marine chart plotters typically require trip planning on a separate device or directly on the unit itself.

Savvy Navvy moves that process to the iPhone, where most boaters already manage everything else.

Every Qualifying Boat Includes Premium Access

MasterCraft is bundling a free Savvy Navvy Premium subscription with each qualifying boat.

The perk gives buyers full access to the app’s charts and routing tools without paying extra out of pocket, though MasterCraft hasn’t said how long the trial lasts.

Works on Aftermarket Displays Too

The Savvy Navvy CarPlay integration launched publicly today and is not limited to new MasterCraft boats.

Any CarPlay-compatible display, including aftermarket marine head units already installed on older boats, can run it. Android users are also supported through the same app.

That makes this relevant to a wider pool of boaters than just 2027 buyers. Someone with a compatible aftermarket unit already mounted at the helm can download Savvy Navvy and access the same nautical chart interface today.

Crest and Balise are both brands under MasterCraft Boat Holdings. The company positioned this as an industry first for pontoon boats, and Savvy Navvy’s founder, Jelte Liebrand, described the setup as requiring no complicated synchronization between phone and helm display.
