Apple’s $2,000 Foldable iPhone Just Showed Up in Real Life and It Looks Closer to an iPad Than You Think

New dummy units of the highly anticipated foldable iPhone are surfacing, and a tech reviewer recently compared one of them to current Apple hardware.

The resulting photos and video offer a perspective on scale and design that raw data cannot convey.

When you open the foldable up, you’re essentially holding something close to an iPad mini in your hands.

The inner display is expected to measure 7.8 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio, just slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini. Side by side with that tablet, the resemblance is pretty striking.

Side by side, the foldable unit matches the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s width almost perfectly, a significant detail for anyone who spends a lot of time gaming or watching videos.

But the foldable’s display stretches about 57 percent taller, going from 71 mm to 111.5 mm. For 16:9 video or gaming with on-screen controls, Yuryev says the experience should feel noticeably more immersive.

The outer screen is where expectations might need a small adjustment. Most leaks point to a 5.5-inch cover display, though one source pegged it even smaller at 5.3 inches, making it tinier than the old iPhone 13 mini. People with larger hands may feel the learning curve right away.

On the right side of the device are a Touch ID power button and a Camera Control button, while the volume buttons sit along the top, similar to the iPad mini’s layout.

Face ID isn’t expected to make the cut due to space limitations. Apple apparently views Camera Control as central to the experience, letting users keep a firm grip while adjusting shots or go fully one-handed when needed.

Also: Apple could be adding a pro-level camera feature that gives you more control than ever on your iPhone

On the back, there’s a raised camera plateau that doesn’t span the full surface, housing a two-lens system rather than a three-lens one. That’s a trade-off worth knowing about before you start comparing it to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

While most speculation points to a thickness of 9-9.5 mm, this unit measures 11 mm when closed.

The source maintains the model’s accuracy, noting how closely their iPhone 17 Pro dummies matched the final product last year.

Should the reported 4.5 mm open thickness prove true, Apple would have its thinnest device ever on its hands.

Apple is expected to unveil the foldable alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in September.

Reports surfacing from China suggest the name will be iPhone Ultra, and with a price reportedly above $2,000, it’s clearly positioned at the top of the lineup.
