The Folding iPhone Might Not Be Called What You Think—and the $2,500 Price Suggests It’s Only for Die-Hard Fans

Apple could be getting ready to release its first foldable iPhone, but the bigger surprise might be what it ends up being called.

Most people expected Apple to follow the same naming pattern as everyone else and go with something like “Fold.” That would have made sense. It’s familiar and easy to understand.

But Apple may take a completely different route. Instead, the company is reportedly considering the name “iPhone Ultra”.

That choice would line up with how Apple already labels its most premium products. You can see it with the Apple Watch Ultra and CarPlay Ultra, which clearly sit above the standard models.

The same naming approach has also shown up in chips like the M-series Ultra versions, where the focus is on top-tier performance.

If Apple uses that same label here, it sets expectations right away. This would not feel like a typical iPhone upgrade. It would feel like something reserved for people who want the absolute highest-end version available.

The price rumors back that up. Early estimates suggest the device could land somewhere between $2,000 and $2,500. That would easily make it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever released, putting it in a category of its own compared to the current lineup.

As for how it might actually work, the latest details point to a design that balances everyday use with a larger screen when you need it.

The outer display is expected to sit around 5.3 to 5.5 inches, giving you a familiar iPhone feel when it’s closed. Open it up, and you could get a much bigger 7.8-inch screen that’s better suited for watching videos, reading, or handling multiple apps at once.

Cameras are expected to work in both folded and unfolded positions, along with a dual-lens setup on the back. That suggests Apple is trying to make sure the device feels practical, no matter how you’re using it throughout the day.

None of this is official yet, as plans can change, especially this early. What’s clear right now is that Apple may be thinking carefully about how this device fits into its current lineup.

The name alone hints that this is not meant to replace the iPhone you already have. It’s meant to sit above it.

Would you actually pay more than $2,000 for a foldable iPhone, or does that price push it out of reach for you?
