iPhone Duo Is Apple’s Most Expensive iPhone Ever, Yet the Cheaper iPhone 18 Pro Can Beat It at Something You Do Every Day

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, will support MagSafe wireless charging, settling a question that had lingered throughout months of pre-launch speculation.

Official tech specs confirm the device charges wirelessly at up to 25W via MagSafe, matching the top speed offered on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

Earlier dummy units that surfaced ahead of the announcement lacked a visible MagSafe ring, leaving the feature’s inclusion uncertain. But now the spec sheet makes it official.

The Duo also supports Qi2.2 wireless charging at 25W for those using third-party accessories instead of Apple’s MagSafe hardware.

Wired charging comes with a caveat

On the wired side, the iPhone Duo can reach 50 percent charge in about 20 minutes. That’s a meaningful gap compared to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, both of which hit the same 50 percent threshold in 15 minutes.

For a device starting at $1,999, that difference may draw some scrutiny, though the foldable form factor introduces engineering constraints that standard slab phones don’t face.

The tradeoff likely reflects the physical demands of fitting a folding hinge, dual displays, and a battery configuration into a device thin enough to function as a phone in its closed state. Apple has not publicly addressed the charging speed difference.

Pricing and availability

Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo open October 16, with the device hitting shelves on October 23. Storage begins at 256GB, and base pricing is set at $1,999, placing it well above every other iPhone in Apple’s current lineup.

For buyers who had been waiting for confirmation of MagSafe support before committing, the accessory ecosystem implications are now clear.

Existing MagSafe chargers, battery packs, wallets, and mounts will work with the Duo without any additional hardware.
