Apple Maps is expanding its place recommendation tool in iOS 27, allowing iPhone users to scroll through up to 10 suggested locations instead of the two that appeared when the feature launched earlier this year.
The Suggested Places feature arrived in iOS 26.5 back in May, surfacing location ideas directly on the Maps search screen.
Apple built the tool to pull from two sources: what is currently trending and your own recent search history. That second piece is where the feature earns its keep.
If you have been looking up restaurants in a city you plan to visit next month, Maps picks up on that pattern and starts serving relevant recommendations without any extra input from you.
One Limitation Is Now Gone
From the start, Suggested Places was capped at two recommendations visible at any time.
For anyone using Maps to plan a trip or scout a new neighborhood, that limit cut the usefulness of the feature considerably. Two options rarely cover what most people are actually looking for.
iOS 27 keeps the same two-card layout on the search screen but adds a horizontal scroll row behind it.
Running the iOS 27 beta, I’ve seen as many as 10 places loaded at once, all swipeable from the same spot in the app. No digging through menus or launching a separate search required.
How This Changes Daily Use
For people who rely on Apple Maps to find places to eat, shop, or explore, this update shifts how much weight the search screen can carry.
Rather than typing a query and sorting through results manually, the suggestions panel now functions closer to a curated shortlist. The more you search within Maps, the more the recommendations reflect what you are actually planning.
That behavior matters most for travel planning. A user researching hotels and attractions in a specific city will find that Maps begins feeding location ideas tied to that destination, not just generic trending spots nearby.
With ten recommendations available instead of two, there is enough variety in that list to make it a practical starting point rather than a token gesture.
iOS 27 also brings several other changes to Apple Maps beyond the Suggested Places expansion, covering navigation and display improvements throughout the app. The update is currently available in beta ahead of a public release expected this fall.
