iOS 27 Could Finally Make Siri Feel Like ChatGPT With a Hidden Feature Million of iPhone Users Have Wanted for Years

For fifteen years, Siri was the ultimate ghost. It would answer a question and immediately evaporate, leaving no transcript or history to scroll through.

Hundreds of millions of users just got used to that “one and done” interaction. With iOS 27, Apple is finally ending that era of digital amnesia.

Apple is building a dedicated Siri app for the first time ever. Think of it as a chat history for your entire relationship with your phone’s assistant.

Also: Apple just did something nobody predicted: it sided with Google against the EU

Past conversations appear in a grid you can tap to revisit. There’s a search bar, a plus button to start something new, and support for uploading photos and documents. You can type or speak, whichever fits the moment.

That alone sounds minor until you remember how many times you’ve asked Siri something, half-read the answer, looked away, and lost it forever.

Where Siri Actually Lives Now

Trigger Siri in iOS 27, and a pill-shaped animation appears in the Dynamic Island. Ask it a question, and a transparent card floats up with the answer.

Swipe that card, and you drop into a full conversation view that looks a lot like iMessage, complete with small embedded cards for weather, calendar events, and notes, depending on what you asked.

Apple is also folding a system-wide search gesture into this. Swipe down from the top center of your screen in any app, and a Search or Ask bar appears in the Dynamic Island.

It works like Spotlight but reportedly pulls richer results from inside your apps, not just surface-level matches.

You Can Swap Siri Out for Something Else

That same search bar defaults to Siri, but tap on it, and you can switch to ChatGPT, Gemini, or other third-party AI services on the fly.

Apple is reportedly extending that choice to other Apple Intelligence features, including Writing Tools and Image Playground.

Letting rivals sit inside the core search experience of an iPhone is a genuinely unusual move for a company that typically keeps its ecosystem locked tight.

Web-sourced answers are coming as well, with responses formatted using bullet points and large images rather than a single spoken sentence that disappears before you finish reading it.

Apple is expected to show the whole thing at WWDC in June. Whether the finished version lands as described is a separate question entirely.
