Apple has begun recruiting retail store employees to staff its September iPhone event at Apple Park, according to Bloomberg, a sign the company is moving toward a launch window that could fall as early as September 8 or 9.

The event is expected to introduce three new products at once: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

That last device has been in development for years and would mark the most significant change to the iPhone’s physical form since the original.

How Apple Picks Who Works the Event

Apple runs a lottery system called the Event Support Experience Program for U.S. retail workers who want to attend the event in person.

Employees who win get flown to Cupertino to handle logistics: greeting media, managing lines, directing guests, and supporting security. Apple covers travel and lodging for those selected.

Not every retail employee qualifies. Workers who staffed either the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference or last year’s iPhone launch are locked out of this round.

The lottery entry window closes August 8, and Apple plans to notify selected employees on August 17.

Why September 9 Is the Most Likely Date

Apple told employees the event falls in the first half of September but gave no specific date. Labor Day lands on September 7 this year.

Apple traditionally gives the press a day to travel before its events, which pushes the most probable date to September 9. September 8 remains possible but slightly less likely given that pattern.

Apple has held its iPhone events during the first or second week of September in most recent years, with pre-orders typically opening the following Friday and devices shipping roughly a week after that.

If the pattern holds, the iPhone 18 lineup could be in customers’ hands before the end of September.

What’s Actually Coming

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to arrive with a smaller Dynamic Island, updated camera hardware, and a new chip.

The foldable model has been rumored to feature a roughly 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen with a minimal crease. Apple has not confirmed any specifications.

Pricing remains a concern. Earlier reports suggested the iPhone 18 Pro could carry a higher price tag than the 17 Pro. Whether that increase applies to the base Pro model, the Pro Max, the foldable, or all three has not been confirmed.
