Anyone hoping to get their hands on Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo may be waiting well into 2027, and the company still doesn’t know when the shortages will end.
Apple CEO John Ternus confirmed that iPhone Duo supply remains constrained, with orders currently showing January delivery estimates and little inventory available for in-store pickup.
“Duo is constrained as of today,” Ternus said following Apple’s fourth-quarter earnings report on Monday.
“The ramp is going well, and we’re working hard to get it to as many customers as quickly as possible, but at this point, we’re not able to predict when supply and demand will be in balance.”
Apple had warned customers ahead of the October 23 launch not to visit stores without pre-orders, anticipating limited availability for walk-in shoppers.
Display Cracks Complicate the Shortage
Supply problems aren’t the only concern surrounding Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Some owners have reported cracks developing along the inner display near the hinge, occasionally accompanied by a bright line of pixels across the screen.
Apple acknowledged the problem last week and directed affected customers to AppleCare for replacements.
Ternus said a “very small percentage” of devices have been returned, although Apple hasn’t disclosed an exact figure.
The company is replacing affected units, but limited inventory could make the process more frustrating for customers who already waited weeks to receive their phones.
Apple’s Record Quarter Doesn’t Include iPhone Duo Sales
The supply update came alongside Apple’s latest earnings, which showed September-quarter revenue reaching a record $114.5 billion, up 12% year over year.
Profit totaled $30.7 billion.
However, those results don’t include iPhone Duo sales because the foldable launched after the quarter ended.
Its financial contribution won’t appear until Apple’s next earnings report, leaving investors and customers without a clear picture of how many units Apple has actually sold.
For shoppers, the immediate problem is availability. With January delivery estimates and no timeline for improved supply, getting an iPhone Duo before the holidays looks increasingly unlikely.
