Apple’s new Siri Remote finally makes it easier to find a missing remote, thanks to a built-in speaker and Precision Finding support. And you won’t need to buy the new $299 Apple TV 4K to get it.
The fourth-generation Siri Remote costs $59 and works with every Apple TV model released since 2015, making it a standalone upgrade for owners of older streaming boxes.
Find My support comes with an iPhone catch
The biggest addition is Precision Finding, which lets you locate a misplaced Siri Remote using directional arrows on your iPhone.
The remote also has a built-in speaker that can play a sound, making it easier to find when it’s buried between couch cushions or hidden under furniture.
But there’s a compatibility restriction.
Apple says Precision Finding requires an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or newer, excluding the iPhone 17e.
That leaves out older iPhones with Ultra Wideband hardware capable of Precision Finding, including models from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 lineups. Apple hasn’t explained why those devices aren’t supported.
The new remote otherwise looks familiar, retaining the same button arrangement and USB-C charging port as its predecessor.
You don’t need a new Apple TV to use it
The fourth-generation Siri Remote works with all Apple TV 4K models, including the original 2017 version and the Apple TV HD introduced in 2015.
That means owners of older Apple TV boxes can buy the remote separately instead of replacing their streaming hardware just to get the new finding features.
However, compatibility with an Apple TV doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get Precision Finding. You’ll still need one of Apple’s supported iPhones to use directional tracking.
The new Siri Remote is available to order now for $59, with deliveries beginning November 13. It’s also included with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K.
