References found in the watchOS 27 and iOS 27 betas point to four new features coming to the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which Apple is expected to unveil later this week.
The findings include a new app called “Readiness,” which appears in the default watchOS 27 Home Screen layout directly after Workout.
The app is separate from the existing Vitals app, and the Apple Watch companion app on iOS 27 also includes it when organizing the Home Screen.
Apple hasn’t revealed what Readiness will track, but its name suggests a focus on recovery and how prepared you are for activity.
Apple Watch strength training could get much better
Apple also appears to be expanding strength workout tracking. The beta includes health data fields for individual sets, repetitions, weight, equipment, which side of the body was used, and workout duration.
The Apple Watch currently records strength workouts with little detail. Those additional fields could give people a much better record of their gym sessions without needing a separate app.
The software also references a new optical sensor family called “Sunstone4p0.” It has lower noise coefficients and can select sensing channels based on wrist position and watch orientation.
That could improve heart rate accuracy when the watch doesn’t maintain consistent contact with the skin, such as during weightlifting and other high-movement activities.
Apple could double the storage
Another discovery points to 128GB of storage for the Series 12 and Ultra 4, up from 64GB on current models. The reference comes from a NAND storage profile associated with the T8320 chip.
It’s not clear what Apple plans to do with all that extra storage. Most people use their Apple Watch storage for things like music and podcasts, and 64GB already provides plenty of room for most users.
One possibility is a local Siri AI model, which could need additional storage, but Apple has not indicated that this is the reason for the increase.
The beta code also follows earlier discoveries of HomePod surround-sound features in audioOS 27.
Apple is expected to introduce the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 at its September 9 event.
