ChatGPT can now work directly with your iCloud email and calendar, letting you find messages, schedule appointments, and manage events without switching apps.
OpenAI has introduced two new plugins for iCloud Mail and Calendar, extending ChatGPT’s access to Apple services that previously relied largely on Siri and native apps for assistant-driven tasks.
Both integrations are available across ChatGPT plans on the web, desktop, and iOS.
What ChatGPT can do with iCloud Mail and Calendar
The Calendar plugin allows ChatGPT to read existing events, create appointments, and update schedules. Changes sync through iCloud, so they also appear in Apple’s Calendar app and other compatible calendar apps.
The Mail plugin offers broader capabilities, including:
- Searching and reading iCloud emails.
- Managing messages and drafts.
- Composing and sending emails.
- Looking up iCloud contacts.
There’s an important limitation: the Mail plugin works only with iCloud email accounts, including addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com.
If you use Apple’s Mail app for Gmail or Outlook, those accounts aren’t accessible through the iCloud integration.
Connecting iCloud requires an app-specific password
Neither plugin gains access to your Apple account automatically.
To connect, you must generate an app-specific password through your Apple Account settings and use it to authorize the integration.
This allows third-party services to access supported iCloud features without sharing your primary Apple Account password.
Users who don’t enable the plugins won’t establish an iCloud connection.
OpenAI’s Dots can also use iCloud data
The integrations extend beyond individual ChatGPT conversations.
OpenAI’s Dots, introduced last month as an always-on AI agent, can also use connected iCloud Mail and Calendar information to help manage ongoing tasks.
That could make email and calendar information useful for work that continues between ChatGPT sessions, rather than requiring users to initiate every interaction.
The additions also bring ChatGPT closer to capabilities traditionally associated with Siri, particularly when it comes to working with personal information stored in Apple’s ecosystem.
Users can connect the new plugins through ChatGPT’s settings on supported platforms.
