Apple’s Highly Anticipated Folding iPhone May Keep the One Feature Everyone Was Afraid It Would Lose

People who were seriously considering Apple’s upcoming folding iPhone but worried about losing MagSafe can probably relax now.

Newly surfaced case images of the device, widely expected to be called the iPhone Ultra, appear to show the MagSafe ring present and accounted for.

That’s a big deal because earlier leaks had left many people wondering whether Apple would cut the feature entirely.

Why MagSafe Matters So Much to iPhone Users

If you’ve been using a recent iPhone, you already know how deeply MagSafe has worked its way into daily life.

Snap-on chargers, magnetic battery packs, wallet attachments, car mounts, the whole ecosystem of accessories that clicks into place without any fiddling around.

For a lot of people, it’s gone from a nice bonus to something they genuinely can’t imagine going without.

So when earlier leaked images of dummy units for Apple’s fall iPhone lineup showed the folding model without any MagSafe ring, while the iPhone 18 Pro models in the same shots had it, that raised some eyebrows.

It wasn’t hard to understand the logic of leaving it out, either. A foldable phone already has to cram a hinge, two screens, and all the usual internals into a form factor that people will still want to carry in their pocket.

Dropping MagSafe would be one straightforward way to shave some thickness off the design.

New Case Leak Changes the Picture

Newly surfaced photos of alleged iPhone Ultra cases reveal that the MagSafe ring remains a central design feature.

Case manufacturers typically work from precise measurements and specifications, so when a case shows up with a MagSafe opening, it’s a fairly reliable signal that the phone itself is expected to have the feature.

It suggests Apple may have found a way to keep MagSafe in the design without the thickness tradeoffs that were previously a concern.

Whether that means the phone ends up thinner than expected, or Apple simply decided the feature was too important to cut, isn’t clear yet.

What We Know About the Folding iPhone So Far

Rumors about the iPhone Ultra have been building for a while. The device is expected to follow a book-style foldable design, with a flexible OLED display on the inside that opens up to roughly 7.6 to 7.8 inches.

On the outside, there’d be a second screen measuring around 5.5 inches for quick glances and everyday use without opening the phone up.

The hinge is reportedly engineered to reduce the visible crease that has plagued other foldable phones on the market.

Internally, expect specs in line with Apple’s Pro lineup, along with iPad-style multitasking features designed to take full advantage of that larger inner display when the phone is open.

As always with pre-release leaks, nothing here is official. Apple hasn’t confirmed that a folding iPhone exists, let alone what features it will or won’t include.

Specifications and design details can shift all the way up to launch. But the MagSafe case images are encouraging news for anyone who had put the folding iPhone on their wishlist and then felt a little deflated by those earlier dummy unit photos.
