Apple’s next HomePod mini may be dropping two of its most recognizable colors.
Images found in Apple’s code show what appears to be the second-generation HomePod mini in five finishes: green, pink, light blue, white, and midnight. Yellow and orange, both available on the current model, are nowhere to be seen.
The files were discovered in Apple’s software and are labeled for “HomePod mini 2,” offering an early look at a product Apple hasn’t announced yet.
If the images reflect Apple’s final lineup, this would be the biggest shake-up to the HomePod mini’s colors since yellow, orange, and blue were introduced in 2021.
Yellow and orange appear to be going away
The current HomePod mini comes in blue, yellow, orange, white, and midnight. The new images retain white and midnight while replacing yellow and orange with green and pink. Blue sticks around, but Apple appears to be switching to a noticeably lighter shade.
Apple could ultimately use different names for the colors when the speaker goes on sale, but the images give us a good idea of what the lineup would look like together.
The speaker itself looks almost identical to the current HomePod mini. It retains the same fabric-covered spherical body and illuminated touch surface on top, with no obvious changes to its overall shape.
Apple has used essentially the same design since the original HomePod mini arrived in 2020. The last visual change came in 2024, when Midnight replaced Space Gray, with no changes to the internal hardware.
New hardware is also expected
The current HomePod mini still uses the S5 chip introduced with the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019. A replacement has been rumored to include a newer processor and updated networking hardware, although the images don’t reveal what’s changing internally.
The new model could also play a role in Apple’s plans to bring the more capable version of Siri to the home. Previous code references have pointed to expanded Siri AI support on HomePod, but Apple hasn’t said which speakers will support it or whether the new capabilities require upgraded hardware.
Apple hasn’t announced the second-generation HomePod mini, and the files don’t reveal when it will arrive or what it will cost. The current model sells for $129 in the U.S.
