Apple has released the first release candidate of iOS 27.2, signaling that the next iPhone software update is nearly ready for public release.
A release candidate is typically the final version of an update before it reaches everyone, provided Apple doesn’t discover any last-minute issues during testing.
What’s New in iOS 27.2
Several features introduced throughout the beta cycle have made it into the release candidate, including improvements to FaceTime, Siri, and Apple’s entertainment apps.
Here’s what’s coming:
- Group FaceTime: Dual Capture support brings multiple camera feeds to group calls.
- Siri: Expanded language support for Apple’s AI features.
- Apple TV: Profile support for a more personalized viewing experience.
- Apple Podcasts: A reorganized episode layout.
- Apple Music: A redesigned black-and-white app icon replaces the familiar red version, while blue now highlights the selected tab inside the app.
Among the more noticeable changes is Apple Music’s new look, which gives the app a different appearance on the Home Screen and during navigation.
The Redesigned Health App Didn’t Make the Cut
Apple introduced a redesigned Health app during the early betas, only to remove it in beta 4 and restore the previous interface. Despite appearing in several test builds, the redesign is absent from the release candidate.
Apple has confirmed that the updated Health app is still planned for later this year, although it hasn’t provided a specific release date.
That leaves another software update, potentially iOS 27.3, as a possible destination for the redesign. For now, anyone hoping to try the new Health experience will have to wait.
As for iOS 27.2 itself, Apple hasn’t announced a public release date. Release candidates generally arrive about one to two weeks before the final update, although a second candidate could follow if additional fixes are needed.
