One of the most annoying parts of paying for dinner has nothing to do with the food. It’s the five minutes that follow when everyone starts figuring out who ordered what.
Apple thinks it can fix that. In iOS 27, Wallet gains a new receipt-scanning feature that automatically calculates each person’s share, but that’s only one of seven upgrades arriving later this year.
The update also tackles a long-standing Wallet limitation that has left countless loyalty cards, memberships, and tickets stuck outside Apple’s ecosystem.
Photographing a Receipt Does the Math for You
The most immediately practical addition is a bill-splitting tool built on Apple Intelligence.
Point your camera at a restaurant receipt, and the feature breaks down every item, calculates each person’s share, then adds tax and tip automatically.

Diners select their orders, and the app figures out who owes what. Payments go through Apple Cash, which is available to U.S. users.
The feature works through the Camera app’s Siri Mode or directly in Messages and Wallet.
Physical Cards Can Now Live Entirely in Your Phone
A new Create a Pass feature lets users digitize physical loyalty cards, gym memberships, and event tickets that have no official digital version.

If the card has a barcode or QR code, Visual Intelligence scans it and builds a digital copy. Cards without scannable codes can be entered manually.
The resulting passes support 12 background colors, multiple textures, and seven preset category themes covering music, sports, theater, and movies.
Fields for membership numbers, dates, coupon codes, insurance details, and VINs can be added or removed depending on the card type.
This requires an iPhone 15 Pro or later, since Visual Intelligence depends on Apple Intelligence hardware.
Loyalty Cards and Memberships Get a Visual Upgrade
Passes from retailers, gyms, and reward programs will display more like the redesigned boarding passes Apple introduced in iOS 26.

The new Poster Generic card style supports full background images, prominent logos, and up to two tappable actions at the bottom of each pass, such as checking a rewards balance or pulling up directions to a store.
Apple is also adding support for four additional barcode formats, including EAN-13 and Code 39, which expands compatibility with a wider range of existing loyalty programs and retailers.
Hotel Stays Show More Trip Details
Digital hotel keys in Wallet are getting more context. Participating hotels can now surface information about booked activities and provide direct access to on-property services via the key card entry in the app.
Apple has not published a list of participating hotel chains ahead of the iOS 27 release.
Spending Insights Expand to More Banks
A feature called Insights builds on the Connected Accounts tool from earlier iOS versions. Users can link financial accounts to Wallet and track spending patterns, recurring charges, and account balances in one place.

Apple says the feature works with banks that have adopted Connected Cards support, and several UK banks are among the institutions already compatible at launch.
Order Tracking Reaches Australia and Canada
Package tracking inside Wallet, which Apple introduced for U.S. and UK users in iOS 26, is coming to Australia and Canada with iOS 27.
A separate feature called Tap to Share lets customers connect their iPhone to a participating merchant’s device for faster digital checkout, though Apple has not detailed which retailers will support it at launch.
