Apple’s new iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, but damaging its foldable display could leave you facing another $999 repair bill. And that’s not even the most expensive repair Apple charges for its first foldable iPhone.
According to Apple’s newly published service pricing, repairs for other accidental damage can cost as much as $1,499 without AppleCare+.
That’s roughly 75% of the phone’s starting price, making Apple’s optional coverage worth a closer look before you buy.
How much does it cost to repair the iPhone Duo?
Apple has published out-of-warranty prices for several types of damage, with the inner foldable display carrying the highest individual component repair fee.
| Repair type | Without AppleCare+ | With AppleCare+ |
|---|---|---|
| Inner foldable display | $999 | $99 |
| Outer display | $379 | $29 |
| Outer display + back glass | $509 | Depends on claim |
| Back glass | $199 | $29 |
| Rear camera | $229 | $99 |
| Battery | $229 | Free if below 80% capacity |
| Inner display cover layer | $49 | $19 |
| Other accidental damage | $1,499 | $99 |
The $999 inner display repair is particularly concerning because it’s the screen you’ll use whenever the iPhone Duo is unfolded.
Apple has made the nano-texture cover layer replaceable for $49, which could help with minor surface damage. However, replacing the foldable display itself is much more expensive.
AppleCare+ could save you hundreds on a single repair
AppleCare+ for the iPhone Duo is available at three prices:
- $19.99 per month for monthly coverage.
- $199.99 per year for annual coverage.
- $399 upfront for a prepaid option whose coverage term should be confirmed before purchase.
The difference becomes obvious if you damage the inner display. Without coverage, Apple charges $999. With AppleCare+, the service fee drops to $99.
Even after paying $199.99 for a year of coverage, that repair would cost approximately $299 in total, saving around $700 compared with the uncovered repair price.
AppleCare+ also covers eligible battery replacements at no additional service charge when battery capacity falls below 80%. Theft and loss claims carry a $149 deductible under applicable coverage.
How well the folding screen holds up
Apple says the iPhone Duo’s inner display is engineered to withstand repeated folding while minimizing the visibility of the crease.
But repair prices show how expensive a damaged folding screen can be, especially for buyers who plan to keep the device for several years.
The iPhone Duo is available for preorder now, starting at $1,999, with the first deliveries scheduled for October 23. Some configurations are already showing shipping estimates extending into 2027.
