Apple plans to release a second-generation MacBook Neo in 2027 with a faster chip, more memory, and new color options, according to Bloomberg.
The biggest change could be the move from 8GB to 12GB of RAM, addressing one of the main limitations of the current model.
The next Neo is expected to use Apple’s A19 Pro chip, replacing the A18 Pro in the current machine.
Apple is also preparing new colors, although the exact options have not been reported. The first MacBook Neo arrived in March 2026 in Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo.
More memory could make the biggest difference
Going from 8GB to 12GB should be more noticeable to many buyers than the chip upgrade.
Apple silicon uses shared memory for the processor and graphics, and 8GB can become limiting with several apps open, photo editing, or a large number of browser tabs.
That puts the Neo closer to the MacBook Air, although the Air still starts with 16GB of memory.
Price is another part of the equation. Apple launched the MacBook Neo at $599 in March before raising it to $699 in June. College students and education staff can still get it for $599.
How much will the next Neo cost?
Apple hasn’t said whether the 2027 model will keep the $699 starting price. A newer chip and 50% more memory could give Apple reason to raise it again, especially after this year’s increase.
That’s where the Neo could run into a problem. Push the price too far, and it starts getting closer to the MacBook Air, taking away some of the appeal of Apple’s cheapest Mac.
Apple has not confirmed the second-generation model. If the 2027 timing holds, the current Neo will have been on the market for only about a year before its replacement arrives.
