We’ve all done it. You’re at a family gathering or hanging out with friends, and someone asks to see a vacation photo.
You swipe down, tap Screen Mirroring, and next thing you know, your entire iPhone screen is on display.
Notifications pop up. Your camera roll is wide open. Maybe even that weird meme you saved last week is now on a 65-inch screen for all to see. Not ideal.
Here’s the better way, and if you’re an Apple TV user, you’ll wish you started doing this sooner.

- Instead of mirroring your whole screen, just open the photo you want to show.
- Tap the Share icon (that little square with the arrow), then choose AirPlay.
- Select your Apple TV, and only that single photo will appear on the big screen.
After AirPlaying your first photo, don’t just swipe left or right to see others, which will show everyone your photos on screen.
Also: Your Apple TV has a hidden setting that makes typing 10x faster—you’re probably not using it
Instead, swipe down to return to your full photo library, then select the next photo you want to share.
While browsing the library this way, you can safely scroll through all your pictures without risking unwanted images popping up on the TV.
This trick is shockingly underused. Most people don’t realize they can AirPlay content directly from the Share Sheet, whether a photo, video, or webpage.
It’s a small shift that makes a huge difference in how you present things, especially when privacy matters.
The next time someone leans in and says, “Let me see,” don’t risk the scroll. AirPlay just the photo, keep the rest private, and stay in control.
