Apple is reportedly considering a larger inner display for a future iPhone Duo, potentially bringing its foldable closer to the size of an iPad mini.

Early discussions about increasing the foldable’s screen size suggest the company is exploring an inner display measuring somewhere between 7.9 and 8.1 inches, up from the current model’s 7.6 inches.

The exact dimensions haven’t been decided, and there’s no guarantee Apple will proceed with the change.

One detail is particularly interesting: Apple apparently isn’t planning a separate iPhone Duo Max. Instead, any increase in screen size would become part of the existing Duo lineup as the product evolves.

Why Apple Might Want a Bigger iPhone Duo

The first-generation iPhone Duo, unveiled at Apple’s Shine event in September and available in stores starting October 23, features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen.

Its larger display already supports side-by-side apps, Apple Pencil input, and layouts designed to take advantage of the foldable’s extra screen space.

Increasing the inner display to around 8 inches could make those features more comfortable to use, particularly when working with documents or running multiple apps simultaneously.

However, a bigger screen introduces another challenge: weight. Some early users have already questioned the Duo’s relatively heavy construction compared with competing Android foldables.

Expanding the display could make that problem harder to solve unless Apple finds ways to reduce weight elsewhere.

Apple Is Already Exploring Other Changes

The larger display isn’t the only potential improvement being considered for future models.

Apple is also reportedly testing under-display Face ID hardware for the second-generation Duo, potentially replacing the side-mounted Touch ID sensor that drew criticism in early reviews.

Neither change has been confirmed for the next model, and it’s unclear whether the larger screen is being considered for the Duo 2 or a later generation.

Meanwhile, the original Duo is facing a difficult launch. Stronger-than-expected demand has reportedly strained supplies, leaving Apple Stores with little inventory for walk-in customers.

Some early owners have also reported cracks developing along the folding display’s hinge, although the extent of those problems remains unknown.

For now, the possibility of a larger screen suggests Apple is still evaluating the Duo’s ideal dimensions rather than treating its first foldable design as final.
