Roku streaming devices are great, but sometimes they can be finicky. You may have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi or getting a low power message, or your Roku might be frozen or stuck. In either case, resetting your Roku can help you troubleshoot these issues.
This guide will show you how to reset Roku in two simple ways.
System Restart Your Roku Device
A system restart is less invasive than a factory reset. It doesn’t return your device to the default settings.
Remember that a System restart is not the same as pressing the power button on your remote or TV.
To perform a system restart, unplug the power cable from the wall outlet, and wait for at least 10 seconds before plugging it back.
If you have trouble accessing the power cable, you can use the steps below to system restart your Roku:
- On your Roku remote, press the Home button.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Select the System option.
- Select Power.
- Then, choose System restart.
Your device will turn off, then turn on again.
Factory Reset Your Roku Device
There are a few different ways you can factory reset your Roku device. Unlike a system restart, a factory reset wipes your data, unlinks your Roku account, and restores your Roku to its factory settings.

How to Factory Reset Your Roku Device Via Settings
To reset your Roku device:
- Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
- Scroll down and select Settings.
- Then, go to System.
- Choose Advanced system settings.
- Select Factory reset.
- Finally, select OK and wait for your Roku device to restart.
If you have a Roku TV, choose Factory reset everything. Otherwise, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset.
How to Factory Reset a Roku Device Using the Reset Button
If your Roku is frozen or stuck, you can use a built-in physical button (tactile or pinhole) to reset it. You’ll find it either on the back or bottom of your device.

You need to press and hold the button firmly for at least ten seconds. You should see a blinking LED light if you’ve successfully reset your Roku device.
Upon a successful factory reset, your Roku device will start up in the same state as when it was brand new.
