If you picked up an iPhone Duo last Friday, there’s good news: your phone now works with an Apple Pencil.
Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, enabling stylus support on both of the foldable’s displays. The update also introduces Edge Light, a video calling feature previously available on Mac.
The timing is notable. The Duo went on sale October 23 without Pencil support, despite Apple’s promise to add it later this year. That wait turned out to be just three days.
Apple Pencil works on both iPhone Duo screens
Pencil support extends to the 5.4-inch outer display and the larger 7.6-inch folding screen.
You can take handwritten notes, sketch, and annotate PDFs or images directly on either display. The larger inner screen should be particularly useful for marking up documents without needing an iPad.
There’s one catch, though: only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) is supported.
Apple Pencil Pro and earlier generations won’t work with the Duo, so anyone who already owns a Pencil will need to check compatibility before assuming they can use it.
Edge Light brightens video calls
Edge Light brings a familiar Mac feature to Apple’s foldable iPhone.
During video calls, it creates a glowing border around the display to illuminate your face, helping you appear more visible in dimly lit environments.
The feature works with FaceTime and supported third-party apps, including Zoom.
It’s especially useful with the Duo’s partially folded position, which lets the phone stand on a table without a separate mount. You can make hands-free calls while Edge Light provides additional illumination.
Both Apple Pencil support and Edge Light are exclusive to iPhone Duo. Other iPhone models won’t receive these features through iOS 27.2.
