It’s Taken Apple 15 Years to Give Siri Something That Should Have Been Obvious From Day One, and iOS 27.2 Finally Delivers

Siri can now remember what you discussed days or weeks ago, so you can pick up an earlier conversation without repeating the details.

The capability arrives with iOS 27.2, released October 26, alongside expanded access to personal information and support for five additional languages.

It’s one of the first substantial upgrades to Apple’s redesigned assistant since its debut in September.

Siri can recall earlier conversations

Conversation memory is the most useful addition, addressing a limitation that made Siri AI feel less capable than competing assistants.

For example, if you asked Siri for restaurant recommendations last week, you can now follow up about those suggestions without explaining the original request.

ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini already offer similar conversational continuity, making this an important addition for Apple’s assistant.

The update also expands the personal context Siri can retrieve from your iPhone, including:

  • Photos attached to Messages conversations.
  • Attendees listed in Calendar events.
  • Information contained in voicemails.
  • Safari browsing history.
  • Articles saved to Safari’s Reading List.

That means Siri can answer more questions involving information you’ve already received or saved, reducing the need to search through individual apps.

Five new languages expand Siri AI’s reach

Siri AI launched with support limited to English. The latest update adds French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

The expansion is available across supported iPhones, iPads, and Macs running their respective 27.2 updates.

Apple Watch users also benefit from faster Siri AI responses with watchOS 27.2, which Apple says improves the assistant’s responsiveness on the wrist.

Performance remains an area for improvement

Siri AI still has room to improve when it comes to speed and efficiency.

Simple commands such as setting timers should feel nearly instantaneous, as they did with the original Siri.

The added processing demands of the AI-powered assistant also make memory management important, particularly when multiple apps are running in the background.

Apple hasn’t announced specific changes addressing these concerns in iOS 27.2.

Early beta testing showed faster responses on iPhone and iPad, along with a possible fix for a recurring issue that made Siri repeatedly ask users to choose between two options.

Whether those improvements hold up consistently in the public release remains to be seen.
